For journalists
The notes app for field journalists
In one sentence
nTilia is an offline notes app for journalists: one folder per assignment, photo and audio inside the note, interviews transcribed on the phone, Travel Mode to cross a checkpoint without your sources, then an article published in English and French.
What an assignment demands
- Writing where the network drops, without preparing anything in advance.
- Keeping the notes, photos, recordings and places of one trip together.
- Transcribing an interview without sending a source’s voice to a server.
- Crossing a border or checkpoint without carrying the names.
- Turning notes into an article that is reviewed, dated and transparently corrected.
How nTilia answers
One Mission per assignment
Name, place, time zone: new notes land there. Photo and audio go into the note or into Takes; GPS is optional and stays on a private map.
Offline first
Capture, dictation and editing without a network. Sync waits until nTilia is open, the vault unlocked and the network back.
Interviews transcribed on the phone
From Pro, Whisper runs on the device: audio is not uploaded. [mm:ss] timestamps take you back to the exact passage.
Travel Mode at the checkpoint
From Pro, an encrypted copy goes to a safe recipient (newsroom, desk), then the phone no longer carries sensitive notes. Bringing them back takes 24 hours, unless the recipient approves: it cannot be done under duress.
Publish and correct
A public journal in English and French, a dated correction note and every version archived. From Pro: indexing, IndexNow and WordPress or Ghost syndication.
What nTilia doesn’t do
nTilia is neither a collaborative editing tool nor a newsroom CMS: it is the author’s tool, from the field to publication. And sync is not end-to-end encrypted, because a published article has to be readable: what leaves is private but readable by nTilia. Publishing is a choice: for anything that must never leave the phone, use device-only notes, encrypted at rest by the vault.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best notes app for a field journalist?
One that works without a network and protects sources. nTilia was built for that: offline capture, on-device transcription, an encrypted vault and Travel Mode. For team work at the office, a collaborative tool like Notion remains a better fit.
Are my interviews uploaded to the cloud to be transcribed?
No. Whisper transcription runs on the device, from Pro. Audio is not uploaded to be transcribed.
How much does it cost?
The Free plan is enough to write and capture offline. Pro, at $14 a month, adds local transcription, Travel Mode and the indexed journal.
